It's a new year - that means it is time for a new word! YES!!! This is my 4th year and I love it so much! I very much look forward to this new journey each year! If you are not picking a word to focus on for the year, I can't tell you enough how rewarding and how rich it is and how much you will get out of it! I am super stoked also, because my in-laws gave me cash for Christmas and I ran right out to Lifeway to get me a Spurgeon Study Bible. I have loved his words for many years, and am excited to use this new Bible in my journey this year. Last year, my word was Abide. WOW - what a year! Studying and learning to Abide in Christ....just WOW!! Not only was I learning about what it means to Abide all on my own, but every study I did last year, my word would come up! Kelly leads our Wednesday night study and she would always smile and look at me. :) Or I would hear it in sermons or on the radio....it was everywhere! Last year I learned what it means to truly Abide in Christ. This year, my word is similar but different.....Refuge. Refuge - A condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger or distress. To be sheltered from a storm. A place or state of safety. It became very very clear that this was my word around October, as I traveled through Psalms. Refuge is a word that is repeated over and over again. David really knew what it meant for God to be his refuge in a time of trouble. Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
Psalm 62:7 - On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is God. So this year, I will be focusing on running to God and taking refuge in Him - letting Him take over and run things, run my life, giving control over more than I ever have before, taking a backseat, keeping my mouth shut, learning to listen more to His prompting, running to Him in times of distress instead of picking up my phone to call or text anyone and everyone who will listen to me, not getting MY way and getting out of HIS way. I don't know why this word was so clear to me or what the Lord is preparing me for. I do know that I am thankful that I Abide in Him and that He is pursuing me and preparing me for any road ahead. Leave a comment and let me know what your word is and why. I would love to hear about it! Love y'all!
